Measuring of High Cycle Fatigue endurance limit experimentally

The goal of this project was extract endurance limit stress of 8th stage of compressor blades in 10 million cycle. High Cycle Fatigue testing  determines the number of cycles required to produce a fatigue crack in a part. An electromagnetic shaker and resonance dwell controller are used to excite vibration of the test article at its natural frequency. The controller also maintains constant strain amplitude throughout the test.

Embedded smart structures with piezo electric transducer. Online damage detection is of great interest in the field of smart structures. CAST uses piezoelectric transducers in its SHM projects. The piezo-electrics offer very high frequency response that means the parameter changing at very high speeds can be sensed easily. These transducers can detect the events of microseconds, so they are suitable for online application.

this project was started in 2012 to establish a center for NDE and CM of structures. And CAST was the core and manager of this Mega-project. This center is included Monitoring by Acoustic Emission (AE), Comparative Vacuum Monitoring (CVM), Hydraulic fault investigation and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) by Piezo transducers.

Experimental modal analysis is a vibration testing technique for determining the natural frequencies, mode shapes, and damping ratios of a structure.

Experimental modal analysis provides structural dynamics information for finite element model validation (correlation) and refinement, failure investigation, vibration troubleshooting and diagnostics, and quality assurance. CAST (Vibration group) has tasted steam turbines, gas turbines, pumps, blower, compressors, foundations, buildings, optics, piping, and many more structures.

The tests include experimental modal analysis, modal assurance criterion (MAC) comparisons, natural frequency measurements, moment weighing, and high cycle fatigue testing at operating temperature.

CAST provides blade frequency testing for new, refurbished, or reverse engineered turbine blades (buckets) to ensure that their natural frequencies are within specifications. This quality assurance is especially critical for longer steam turbine blades that are tuned to avoid high-cycle fatigue failure due to resonance during operation. Frequency testing also proves valuable for quality assurance of industrial gas turbine (combustion turbine) blades. CAST also has extensive experience designing blade frequency test fixtures.

 The goal of this project was estimate the life time of truss structure. Vibration groupe of CAST has a valuable experience in verify numerical simulation by experimetal results. In this project model updating occur according to modal analysis (EMA) and the simulation was done based on real data.
